Taking a taxi cab in Ulaanbaatar
Basically a taxi ride is just any car you flag off the street and often you be charged much higher than the locals. Do NOT ever ask ask how much the ride was, ask how many kilometres and give him 500tugs per Km. or you can call a cab with the number 1950 – the pick up cost is 1200 tugs, and 600 tugs per km. The 1950 cabs have electronic meters, and after 10pm, it is the most reliable transportation in Ulaanbaatar.
However, you’ll spend 80% of the time stuck in traffic, it would almost be faster to walk anywhere in the city.
The train station is about a good 15 mins walk from the main city area.
